MEDICARE COVERAGE

Medicare has recently decided to allow cataract patients the option of choosing a new technology lens implant that allows you to see near, mid-range, and far unlike the older design of single vision implants called monofocal lenses.

MONOFOCAL

With single-vision lens implants there is a high likelihood that you will need glasses for most activities after your surgery and you will have the additional replacement cost of glasses through the years. Medicare and most private insurance carriers will pay 80% of your cataract surgery and the monofocal lens. This is considered basic coverage.

FREEDON FROM GLASSES

New technology implants, such as the AcrySof® ReSTOR® diffractive implant, are designed to improve your vision to see near, far, and everything inbetween. Medicare will now allow you to pay for the upgrade if you choose to do so. Based on FDA clinical data, there is an 80% chance you will never have to wear glasses again. The goal of ReSTOR® lens surgery is to allow you to read the newspaper, prescription bottles, your mail, and to see many other things near and far without glasses. There is an additional cost for having this new lens implanted and we can discuss this further if you are interested.
